The mainstream American blues is indeed kept alive in that way, by an audience that is 90–95% white. But the black blues scene — the soul blues scene, mostly down in the deep South — is 99.9% black audiences, performers, DJ’s, and promoters. Both “sides” miss that part of the equation, and this fact undergirds the failure of their analyses. So….you’re right, but you’re also wrong.
